Young Furniture Makers Leather Prize
The Leathersellers’ Foundation is supporting The Furniture Makers’ Company Young Furniture Makers Leather Prize for the second year running.
The award is now open for entries. Learn more and apply
The Leather Prize is open to all students and recent graduates (up to two years) of UK further or higher education furniture or furnishing related courses who have created an outstanding piece of furniture using leather.
Shortlisted applications will be invited to exhibit their pieces to industry, the design community and potential employers at the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition in London on Wednesday 2nd October where the final judging will take place.
Thanks to the support of the Scottish Leather Group, the winner will have the opportunity of a trip to a world-class, state of the art, carbon net zero tannery (including related travel costs) to learn more about the process of making upholstery leather.
Bursaries will be available for shortlisted students to help subsidise or cover their travel and transportation of their piece to the exhibition in London in October.
Please contact Rebecca Bertram-Smith, Education and Training Manager at the Furniture Makers’ Company should you have any questions or like to discuss the Prize further.
We are also looking to build our network of education partners within the furniture design and making industry to ensure students are aware of, and have access to, leather as a versatile, sustainable material for their work.
Please contact Natalia Rymaszewska, Head of Grants, to discuss more.
